A multi faceted personality and social media star, Dr. Soumya Sarin has become the people’s doctor by democratising practical knowledge in medical sciences and making it palatable for the general public. She has a whopping 5,89,000 subscribers on her Facebook Page where she gives live talks on medical topics to the common public and more than 36,000 subscribers in the “Healing Tones” YouTube channel and is one of the most seasoned experts in the healthcare industry. She is the IMAlive Social Media Winner of 2019.
She has received her MBBS degree from the Academy Of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram, Diploma in child health from Government Medical College, Calicut, DNB in Pediatrics from Bangalore Baptist Hospital. She is also the recipient of the President’s Gold Medal when she ended up as the national topper in Pediatrics. Her scientific temperament has made her active in social media where she breaks stereotypes and actively busts fake news. Dr. Soumya says: “many wrong pieces of information are getting spreaded among people through our social media. So many quacks are infusing poisonous knowledge into their brains against modern medicine. So through this page, I would like to address their concerns and clear them to my best knowledge”. In her blog, Healing Tones she writes about child health, general health and lifestyle and she has also contributed to the society by being columnist in many Malayalam dailies including the crowd favorites like Mathrubhumi and Manorama.
Recently Dr. Soumya Sarin has earned lot of followers through her strong opinions on sex education and has been working towards destigmatizing it amongst the general public. She has been successful in spreading awareness about menstruation and premenstrual syndrome and clarifications on PMDD, gender equality. She has also raised strong opinions on mentally and physically traumatising candidates in the name of NEET prescribed uniforms.
