Hei..This time we have with us one such person who has used quizzing as his trump card in cracking one of the most prestigious examinations in India. Dr Alby John IAS was born into a humble family whose parents believed in the power of education in changing the fate of an individual. Dr. Alby went on to study medicine at the Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur and later on bagged the fourth position in Civil Services Examination in his First attempt !
He was an accomplished Quiz player right from his school days. When he came to know about the winning results of his college seniors in UPSC, who were also part of his quizzing circle, it created a sudden surge of confidence within himself and this prompted him to try his luck in the Civil Services Examination. “Many small things I did in school and college helped me. Like I was a quizzer and also into public speaking and creative writing. I did not join any institute but many senior friends from the quizzing community who cleared the exam gave me useful tips.”
In an interview aimed at giving tips for the UPSC aspirants, he stresses upon the importance of taking part in activities like quizzing for being successful in cracking the exam. All this wisdom comes from his experience as initially being an avid quizzer and his later stints turning him into a seasoned quizmaster. ‘Pacha Malayalam’ by Dr.Alby John is one such quiz that has recorded the highest participation in many editions of Reverberate, one of the biggest quizzing events in the world. He was also the quiz master of the India Quiz 2016 conducted at Government College of Engineering, Kannur.
